Search Engine Lowdown brings up the possibility that Google won't be brought down by one big competitor, but instead by 1,000's of specialized search sites. Just take Battelle's suggestion and try a search on GiveMeBackMyGoogle and you will start to understand.
GMBMG strips out all of the large affiliate shopping sites from your search and it doesn't take long to see that you get better results. Google has become "broadcast search"...too broad for its own good.
I am not giving up my google, but it looks like Become is scoring high satisfaction rates with its shopping searches. Seems to be a bit of a debate about that though.
